Mr. Jerry Zeilstra
Mr. Jerry Zeilstra, Director of Youth and Christian Education at Hebron United Presbyterian Church , has been involved with the East Liberty Family Health Care Center for approximately 15 years. He grew up in South Dakota on a farm with three sisters and two brothers. However, he also feels a strong bond to his church family here in Penn Hills. Jerry often travels with the youth back home to South Dakota, who lovingly refer to him as "Pa." Jerry loves teaching the word of God, noting that it is "exciting to help others understand God's word."
Jerry has been the primary link between his rapidly growing church and the Center, where he has staffed the mission committee which supports the Center financially, and the youth program which has provided our most reliable volunteers (waiters, carnival game designers and operators) for Joyful Noise events past. Further, he is a friend to many of the staff members who attend Hebron. Jerry supports the Center because he believes that the "whole-person" services we provide are incredibly important to the community. As a Bible teacher, he understands how vital it is for people to receive holistic care that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit. The Pediatric Program resonates most with Jerry. He pledges his support to the good work of Dr. Anderson and the pediatrics team, noting that a healthy start is critical to a child's life. He especially values the fact that the Center has the opportunity to share Christ with young patients and their families. Jerry has adopted a goal to help the Center raise $2,400 to enable our young patients to receive 12 pediatric home visits and 32 well-child/immunization visits.
