Robert and Jane Sampson

Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Jane Sampson have been faithful supporters of East Liberty Family Health Care Center for over 23 years.  They have been married for 58 years and have one son, two daughters, six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

Bob worked for the Heppenstall Company for 27 years until it closed in 1979, and Jane was a secretary and homemaker.  Together, the Sampsons raised three children who became an attorney, a chemical engineer, and a nurse.

The Sampsons are a dynamic social service team who moved from a suburban church to an inner-city church to be involved with urban ministry.  Since becoming members of East Liberty Presbyterian Church in 1974, the Sampsons have worked in many ways to advocate for individuals and families who suffer from socio-economic disparities.  They are long-time supporters of the Orr Center.  They served on the Presence Board for NA in East Liberty.  They are both elders of the church, and have been active in the 8 am Sunday Samaritan Worship Service for those in the homeless shelter since 1987.  Further, Jane is an active member serving in a leadership role for the Presbyterian Women, a former moderator for the Pittsburgh Presbytery, and a 27-year member of the Allegheny County Election Board.

Bob and Jane have played a vital role in developing the partnership between the Center and East Liberty Presbyterian Church.  Through genuine concern for those in need, they have raised awareness and facilitated the type of collaboration that brings church and social outreach together to inspire positive change in the community.  They refer patients to the Center, and bring in visitors from Malawi to witness the Center's work in action.  In addition, the Sampsons work with several community partners to bridge resource gaps and further the mission of whole-person care.

They refer to the Center as a "medical mission" and love how it provides health care to people who are uninsured and have little resources.  Jane--who is a patient at the Center--speaks highly of the staff's sensitivity to patient needs and of the opportunity to pray with every visit.  The Sampsons feel that all of the Center's programs are important, but are particularly inspired by the work of Nursing Assistant, George Rivers. Therefore, they have adopted a goal of raising $3,600 to adopt one homecare patient for an entire year.
