Mr. W. Craig Esterly

Mr. W. Craig Esterly is a man who knows why he's here: His stated purpose is to bring people with various skills together, recognizing the synergy among them, for the greater benefit of the Kingdom of God. That's why he's been such a blessing to our Board since he joined in 2006. He is also on the boards of the Shadyside Hospital Foundation, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He's played a central role in partnerships involving all three of these key East End institutions.

Craig and his wife Jan have been married for 25 years and have two children, Carolyn (21) and Daniel (19). With an undergraduate degree in engineering and a master's degree in business, Craig has enjoyed a rich career across varying fields in which he focused on transitional aspects of business. Currently, his business focuses on investments in a family of companies of which he is co-owner.

Craig has served the Center as chair of its Investment Committee, and an active member of the New Space Strategic Planning committee. In both roles, he has exercised his business acumen while connecting the Center with new people from his circles of influence who have provided their advice and support to the Center's endeavors. Craig has introduced us to investors, engineers, architects, hospital administrators, a seminary president, and to more than a few philanthropists.

Craig supports the Center because it helps people who are most in need from an approach that is based on faith and serving the community. There is clear consistency between our mission and his continual pursuit of growth through faith as a follower of Christ. He says that "Service to others is often viewed as a task or obligation with an attendant cost; I have come to learn that service to others is a privilege with attendant rewards."

The Center's Mental Health Program is particularly important to Mr. Esterly. He considers it to be a great compliment to our whole-body, whole-soul approach to medicine. Craig has adopted a goal of raising $20,000 to help us hire a new full-time master's-level therapist to see hundreds of patients each year.
